Drought and heat stress are expected to increase in frequency and severity due to anthropogenic climate change. This highlights the need to better understand how plants will respond to varying levels of drought, and perhaps in combination with other stressors. I’m interested in combining microscopy and plant eco-physiological techniques to determine the hydraulic trait(s) that explain variation in plant mortality/survival and growth during drought, as well as unravel how wood anatomy might play a role in this function.
